Just a quick update regarding the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
We received an email from HMRC today. As I believe all agents did.
As we all know HMRC have been working on this scheme to urgently direct financial support to those effected by the Coronavirus. The first wave of this is the launch of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
They have confirmed that claims should not be made by phone, it will be an online service.
The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS)
This scheme allows employers to claim 80% of the wages of staff (up to a maximum of £2,500 per employee) that they have furloughed (been put on temporary leave). You can refer to our blog and news pages on our website for more information on this.
We know that HMRC have been working at pace to deliver the service that will allow businesses to make a claim. Businesses, and agents that are authorised to act on behalf of clients for PAYE matters, will be able to claim. So we hope that we will be able to make ALL claims connected with our payroll clients.
My plan is to carry out this work for no fee.
If you are not a client or if you are a client but we don’t prepare your payroll but you would like some help with this please contact me. There may be a small fee in these cases.
It is vital that we are your PAYE agents and my payroll team will urgently contact you if we are not.
If you are not a payroll client but need our help please do not delay as it can take a while to get authorisations in place – and we need this to assist in any claims.
Service launch
HMRC have confirmed they will be ready to launch on 20 April.
They will contact you shortly to advise you what you need to do. Please contact us with any questions.
They have asked that you do not call them about this as demand may be beyond their capacity. The service is designed to be self-serve with guidance in place.
But I stress again. If we are your PAYE agent we will make the claims on your behalf.
